“I continue to want to explore animals, exotic and common, in unusual and discordant combinations. And this past year, because I was stuck in the northern hemisphere for the whole of 2020 due to COVID, I was enchanted to experience all of the seasons, their colours, smells and sounds. Autumn especially, when everything around me was red and brown, got me thinking about how I wouldn’t be able to spot a fox in the woods if it wasn’t for his white bits; thus began the interest in camouflage in animals and in concepts of disguise and becoming one with your environment.”

“Symmetry is my favourite work, primarily because of the composition; the symmetricity of it and the large soft curve that the horns create. Somehow a sense of gentle movement is present too. I also like the colour, the sienna, pink, and red are slightly uncomfortable together, but softened by the white of the scimitar oryx. I find this painting very calming.”
